John Ellis recently released his debut album on Fresh Sound Records. "Roots" is John's heartfelt
tribute to his Southern Musical and Family Roots. He is excited to share this sonorous history with
all of you (for purchase please go to local record shop or to www.johnaxsonellis.com).
John would like to invite all of you to celebrate the release of "Roots" in New Orleans. He will be performing
two shows with bandmates Aaron Goldberg on piano, Jason Marsalis on drums, and Rolan Guerin on bass - plus a
special surprise guest. The first celebration will be on April 29th at the Funky Butt. The second show will be
May 11th at Snug Harbor.
Second time is a charm. John was honored with second prize at the Monk Competition this February in
Washington, D.C. He was selected among an extremely talented group of saxophonists. The judging panel included
world-renowned musicians: Wayne Shorter, George Coleman, James Spaulding, Don Braden, and Joshua Redman.
John will be performing with Matt Lemmler's acclaimed "Portraits" Band on April 27th at the Jazztent from
1:30-2:30pm. The band will be performing the music of Stevie Wonder with a New Orleans all-star cast including
Brian Blade, Leah Chase, and George French.
